One Mothers Experience

My daughter had seen a couple girls who wore a t-shirt that has the word "Goddess" on it and thought it cool. That is, until she wore hers to school. A teacher threatened to have her suspended if she wore "THAT" shirt again. When she mentioned the other girls, the teacher said that that is ok, because they are Christians and go to her church.

She went to the principal’s office about this in tears. He said it wont happen again. But a few days later, the teacher singled out my daughter and asked her if she burnt that evil shirt yet. The principal heard it and told the teacher "One more time and your fired."...

The teacher called children services on me about this matter, and told them how argumentative I was. Hmm. During the conversation I had with the teacher, I tried to tell her that it is just a shirt, nothing more. She says it's "Evil". When I reference the other girls...that is not evil because they are Christian. I mention that this is illegal discrimination and SHE hung up on me. That was about a year ago.

This year, my daughter has had this teacher. She has called children services repeatedly over things that are "normal" if a Christian child does/says it. For instance, the students in the class have a daily journal. This past month, my daughter made a note about the TV show called "Charmed". Teacher ran to phone to call children services once again because she is "Fearful" that my daughter is going to "join a cult" or something. OH please!

Fortunate for me the social worker watches the show herself, and was able to laugh off the "charges" waged against me by this teacher. But these things do NOT change the bad feelings this person had instilled in daughter! Only open communication and support from me has.

Another issue the teacher has is...my daughter noted that she wanted the power to help others, which the teacher has deemed evil due to the word "Power", She says No body has "Power" so this girl needs psych help stat!

A few years back, my older daughter felt the brunt of the schools, too. Like after Sept. 11th, her teacher asked what country I was moving to, since only Christians can live in America. Since I did NOT move out of the country, Children services was called in about my "neglect"....And an issue was made out of my books. I was actually in a courtroom fighting for my families right to own, have, and borrow books!!!! The Judge almost issued a "book burning" that day, only ONE thing stopped it. Me telling my attorney that I could not believe this judge wants to go on record for issuing this burning of the Christian bible, and I WILL have TV cameras onsite when they do it!

There is a bible that sits right beside my books on Wicca. Just for your info, there HAVE been book burnings in this town and families that will be hit with contempt of court just for having a book, any Book in their homes, cars or possession. (None of which are Christians).

These things are not all of the fire we have been through over it, but enough to say "Warning". I think one thing our children need to see is us standing our ground, and be secure in who they are. My daughter still thinks the Goddess is really "Cool".

I am waiting for the days of public school system when my daughter who just turned 5 goes there. She is like the girl in that other post! At her daycare, during their "circle time" (for reading books), She will walk around the circle 3x then sit with them. At meals, she will do a food blessing too. The daycare worker called me, and said this is cool, they thought she was doing a protection circle and just wanted to verify it. She was 3 and a half at the time. (At the end of story time she'd walk the circle the other way and say "circle open; not broken". They thought it very sweet. But I know, my battle for this family to be able to be who we are...is far from over.

Being "out of the closet" hasn’t been all-bad though. Attorneys and Judges have studied up on it (Wicca), so too has police dept and other public agencies. Some myths have been dispelled. Perhaps the next generation will not have it as tough. One can hope.
